Iconic seasons worth knowing

Some seasons come up again and again in Premier League trivia, so they are worth remembering in detail.

2003-04: The Invincibles

Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal won 26 and drew 12 of their 38 league games. Their unbeaten league run eventually reached 49 matches before Manchester United ended it in October 2004.

2011-12: “Agüeroooo”

Manchester City and Manchester United finished level on 89 points. Agüero’s goal in the 94th minute against QPR settled the title on goal difference and gave City their first top-flight title since 1968.

2015-16: Leicester’s miracle

Under Claudio Ranieri, Leicester City lost only three league games all season and finished ten points clear. Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kanté became household names almost overnight.

2017-18 and 2018-19: The 100 and the 98

City set the 100-point record in 2017-18, then won again in 2018-19 with 98 points, just one ahead of Liverpool’s 97. That Liverpool total is still one of the highest ever recorded by a runner-up.

2019-20 and 2024-25: Liverpool’s two titles

Liverpool won their first Premier League title in 2019-20 with 99 points, ending a 30-year wait for an English league crown. In 2024-25 Arne Slot won the title in his first season in charge, which took Liverpool to 20 English top-flight titles, level with Manchester United.
